What Has Peter To Do With The Prophet Jonah?

In the book of Jonah, Jonah flees from God's command to go to Nineveh by leaving the city of Joppa.

In the book of Acts, Peter receives his vision of the clean and unclean that launches the mission to the Gentiles from the city of...Joppa.

This is not a coincidence.

Jonah disobeyed the Lord at Joppa and ran from His presence.

Peter obeyed the Lord at Joppa, trusted in God, and took the gospel to the Gentiles in Caesarea.

And lest we forget, before he was Peter, Simon was Simon Bar-Jonah (Simon, son of Jonah).

To be clear, Peter was not actually the son of the prophet Jonah, but you get the idea.

(P.S. One more, hopefully not too much of a stretch: Peter caught fish; Jonah was caught by a fish).
